Hello, my name is Nina
Before I was a yoga teacher I worked in fashion. I thought at the time that was my true calling. Now I know different. My true calling or Dharma is to be a yoga teacher.
I see my role as someone who wants to serve others and to pass on the ancient wisdom of yoga. All yoga teachers have the potential to heal on a holistic level. We have the ability to change peoples lives for the better. I certainly bear that in mind every time I teach a class or an individual.
I see myself as an eternal yoga student, constantly learning and taking inspiration from teachers past and present; to impart my passion for yoga to my students through inspirational and intuitive teaching. My teaching style is known to be clear and concise, and strikes a balance between the science and spirituality of yoga.
I love that yoga is called a practice. Yoga Practice. It need never be perfect, there is no end goal, and the potential to awaken to the benefits are infinite.
I started on my yoga journey late in life, just after having my two girls who are now grown up. I became hooked on yoga after learning with Sivanada teachers in London, and shortly after went to India to the Sivananda school and qualified as a yoga instructor. Over the course of my career I have qualified as a Yoga Therapist having trained at Teach Yoga in London with Elena Voyce in 2011. This I did partly to heal my own body as I discovered I had a very S shaped spine (scoliosis, kyphosis and lordosis), and heal myself I am. It is a long and unwinding journey.
I have trained with Claire Missingham, queen of Vinyasa flow, and am qualified to teach meditation having completed the Teach Meditation course with Swami Saradananda. I am a passionate advocate of Yin Yoga having studied the Paul Grilley method, and wouldn't say 'no' to an Ashtanga class! Suffice to say I love all true forms of yoga. During lockdown I completed a fascinating course on Yoga and The Gut with Elena Voyce.
In 2007 I moved from London to Hastings in East Sussex, and set up my own home studio. Shortly after I was lucky enough to partner with the local council, through a Government incentive to get people more active, and started Yoga for Over 50s and Yoga for All classes in the community. These classes grew in popularity until I became firmly established within the Yoga community in Hastings. I now live in Burwash, and as well as being committed to my beloved yoga family in Hastings, I am also looking forward to expanding into my surrounding areas with classes in Wadhurst and Etchingham. I teach community classes and private sessions and since 2017 I have been leading Yoga retreats abroad.
